Stause was born in Draffenville in Kentucky. She was a student at Murray State University, from where she graduated with a B.A. in theater in 2003. Her middle name, Chishell was a portmanteau derived by the unique circumstances surrounding her birth. Her mom went into labor in Shell Station and Chris her attendant was there to help her birth the baby. But in her book Strause is adamant about the news surrounding her birth. She claims that her mother was having issues with her car and decided to stop at a petrol station. She entered pre-labor while she was at the car station. The attendant at the car assisted her in getting to a hospital. Strause was born in an in-hospital. Her mother divorced from her biological father who was half Japanese/half Spanish before she knew she was expecting. Jeff is her father. Chrishell Strause was forced to be in a tent during a year in middle school. At that time, Strause mentioned washing her hair in the river, relying on food stamps, and concealing her personal life from other students. At the age of 10, her parents were struggling with mental illness and addiction. Strause enrolled in the Worldwide Church of God for some time. Strause describes Strause’s mother as independent and self-righteous.
