Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president and is also the highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. She is a senator and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated health reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
